2010 Bond - Technology Updates: Below you will find updates explaining what we have been doing at Hartland Schools with the 2010 Bond Money earmarked for Technology.
May - September 8, 2011
Installers from the Professional group completed the install of the cabling and bracketing necessary for the Interactive Whiteboards. They also distributed document cameras and installed the sound field amplification and data projectors in each classroom throughout the district. Farms Intermediate, Lakes Elementary, and LEGACY are the last to be installed due to their summer construction schedule and availability of boards. While interactive technology in those buildings has not yet been complete in all classrooms, installers are continuing to make progress as they wait for the final delivery of interactive whiteboards from the distributor. Teachers in all buildings, where boards are installed, have begun lesson planning and using this interactive technology beginning with their first days lessons plans. Students are engaging and learning through this media each day. Teachers and students in Farms, Lakes, and LEGACY eagerly await the install of their boards.
April 2011
Installers from the Professional Group continued to install cabling, sound field and speakers, and did prep work for the large install happening this summer.
Teachers in the pilot group attended their 5th training with our SMART Board Trainers on April 12 where they completed the SMART Notebook Software training and continued to develop creative and interactive lessons for use in their classrooms. The second half of the day was once again spent sharing with colleagues and seeing how each other has been using the equipment in interactive and creative ways with students. Again, this sharing sparked interesting conversation and encouraged creative thinking among our Hartland Educators.
March 2011
Installers from the Professional Group began removing old sound field systems and installing the new sound field equipment in the classrooms at Farms, Ore Creek, and Creekside. The sound field units were connected to the teacher computers in those classrooms amplifying sound from the computers, other connected devices such as video cameras, and the teacher's voices.
Teachers attended two trainigs this month, one on March 9 and one on March 23 where they were taught more advanced techniques for creating interactive lessons using their SMART Notebook Software and SMART Boards. They were also taught how to use their document cameras and incorporate the use of those devices with the SMART Notebook Software and the document camera software.
During the training on March 23, teachers spent half of the day in a session where they were asked to present interactive lessons they have created and used with their students. Sharing in this way sparked ideas among all teachers and interesting discussion and ideas resulted. In addition to the sharing, teachers were polled by district administration and were asked for feedback regarding the installation of the equipment in the 40 pilot classrooms. The idea behind this is to ensure that when the balance of the equipment is installed this summer, it is installed correctly based upon what the teachers prefer in their instructional environments.
February 2011
Teachers in the pilot group were scheduled to have a training on February 3, 2011 and February 22, 2011, but both of these training dates were postponed due to snow days. Teachers continued to use their interactive classroom equipment and continued their path of self-discovery and sharing via email. New tools and ways to create interesting lessons to use with their students emerged dispite the two postponed training dates.
January 2011
Teachers in the pilot group attended their second training on January 5, 2011 and learned additional skills regarding the new classroom technology and were assisted with the development of creative lesson plans by our trainers from the Professional Group.
Document cameras arrived in the district and were installed in the 40 pilot classrooms. Teachers could choose to begin using their equipment right away without training if they so desired.
December 2010
Teachers in the pilot group for interactive classroom technology attended their first training on December 9 and learned the basics of whiteboard operation. They retured to their classrooms and immediately began to implement what they learned creating integrated and interactive lessons using their new equipment. Informal classroom observations indicated excitement on the part of both students and teachers as teachers began teaching in a different way. Installers continued to finish the installations of the interactive classroom technology in the 40 pilot rooms.
November 2010
Through the month of November, interactive classroom technology including SMART Boards and ceiling mounted data projectors were installed in the 40 pilot classrooms.
May 2010
Beginning in May 2010, RFPs were sent out for the interactive technology equipment that will be placed in the classrooms. Bids were accepted and awarded in June and July 2010 and contracts were signed. Beginning in August 2010, equipment began to arrive in the district and the early stages of classroom wiring has begun for the 40 pilot classrooms. These pilot classrooms will receive the interactive technology during the Fall of 2010. Once the equipment is installed, pilot teachers will begin to attend trainings (7 scheduled for the 2010-2011 school year).
